A SHORT HISTORY OF OMAWAS
Along the National Road coming from the south going to Borongan,the capital town you will pass by a Barangay called Brgy.Omawas.The second largest Barangay of Municipality of Maydolong about 5 kilometrs away north of town proper.
The place got its name from the legend of the place.Long before,the inhabitants noticed of a passage of water that comes from the hills and mountains that sorrounds the place.The call the water AWAS nga tubig or FLOW OF WATER.It was of great help to the natives for having a captious water supply that makes no problem of the people for their daily needs.Everybody goes to the AWAS every time they need water. As time goes the word AWAS was added with OM to form OMAWAS and the natives permanently called it OMAWAS.
Omawas has a total land are of-------hectares with a wida plains terminated by rolling hills in north and south, mountains in the west.Facing the eastern side,will see the splided silver lining in the horizon at the break of dawn and the wonderful sun to light and bless around the whole day.It's deep blue sea is the best for boating,surfing and the shore can calm everyone's troubled heart.
The total population is 832 with a total number of 163 household's.The natives have their own traditional custom as well as the belief the called locally PAG-GAMIT.(PAG-GAMIT this the old practice inheret from the forefathers this practice are using for the sick and locally known as saad(promise)....).The source of income depends on agricultural farming,fishing and from the rich natural resources,the gravel and sand and depends on PADARA hit KWARTA TIKANG HIT MGA GUINSAKUPAN.
This Barangay has two(2) active religious sect,the ROMAN CATHOLIC and the BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN.
Parent's in this Barangay realizes early the importance of education,however,typhoons that perpetually hit the area constrained in sending their children to higher education.
Today,new generations have brighter outlook,coined with their hard work and determination,professionals are starting to come up with the inspiration that someday they will be able to pull the surge of success.
